Rev. Dr. Augustine Pallikunnel

was born in kerala in 1935. Ordained Priest in 1963. He served St. George’s Cathedral Church, Kothamangalam, for two years as an assistant Vicar. While he was in charge of the Fathima Matha Church, Thennathoor, then Bishop Rev. Dr. Mathew Pothanamuzhi send him to the United States of America for higher studies; he rendered his pastoral service as associate pastor to St. Raymond’s Church in the Arch Diocese of Chicago, and to Epiphany Church in the Diocese Of Pittsbrgh.

Fr. Augustine Pallikkunnel holds BD in Theology from the Pontifical Institute, MA in English from De Paul University in Chicago and Ph.D in English literature from Duquene University in Pittsburg, USA. He taught English at Duquene University and at Nirmala Collage in Muvattupuzha. From 1971 to 1978 he was Professor of English and Moral Philosophy at the Pontifical Institute of Theology And Philosophy in south India. His articles on various aspects of Literature, Philosophy and Charismatic Renewal have appeared in a number of journals both in English and Malayalam.

He was travelled several times extensively all over the world, especially to USA, Canada, Latin America, Mexico, Europe, and Gulf Countries (UAE) to preach retreats and give talks on Charismatic Renewal. He activity involved in the charismatic movement in his home town, Ezhumuttom, from June 1976. He started a small prayer group in 1976 and now grown to a larger prayer community. He then named it as Tabor Retreat Centre where hundreds of people gather every month to listen to the Word of God and to renew their lives in Jesus Christ.

Rev. Dr. Augustine Pallikkunnel passed away on the 1st of February 2011. He was a man of ideas and ideals. The following prelates officiated at the funeral services, bishops Mar Bosco Puthoor, Mar George Punnakkottle, Mar Mathew Annikuzhikattle, Mar Joshwa ,mar Ignathiose, Mar George Alanchery, Mar Mathew Moolakkattu, and Mar Thomas Chakiath. The body was interred at reserved tomb in St. George Forane Church Muthalakkodom. Priests, nuns and faithful attended services in large numbers.

Commemorative services are conducted regularly on Anniversary days.( feb 1st )
